Songkran .....
It is that time of the year again. Leave your good clothes at home. Wear the old shirts you will never use again. And put your valuables in a plastic bag. Don't forget a smile on your face and some guns ....
What? Do you ask. Guns! Yes of the watery kind. It is Songkran you dummy. Time to cool down the heat with some water. As usual one of the biggest water throwing party's will probably be at Kao Sarn road. If you cannot find that do not be disappointed, as the action will probably be all around town. Even though the authorities have asked the police to tone things down this year.
Songkran has grown in the last few years. In the past it was just people who asked you if they could sprinkle some water in your face and then put some powder on it as well. And that was it. It lasted 2 or maximum 3 days. Nobody would wet you without asking. Nowadays it is different. Mostly started by westerners who thought it was a little bit subdued, it nowadays is pretty difficult to stay dry. Even in Thai neighborhoods.
That is the reason why most expatriates try and flee out of town to drier places. And the ones who cannot afford that lock themselves up in their rooms with enough cans of baked beans to survive. And if that won't work ..... well, if you cannot beat them JOIN THEM.
