Pattaya stories

Gee, I love living in Pattaya

Gee, I love living in Pattaya. The weather has been actually cool a few days for a few hours and one day it was its old hot self. The streets are packed with people for outside Thailand and on weekends there is the arrival of the Bangkok crowd on the weekends and during their days off during the holidays. There are several new clubs opening. The “Diabolo Disko th” is the new and great disco on walking street. Yes, that’s the way they spell the name, i.e. Disko th. Don’t be mislead and think it’s just a small bar. The disco is in the back of the club. You got to make the scene. It’s way cool.
The new pier at the opposite end of walking street has not officially opened yet. The diner restaurants and the buses are still using the old pier but that is going to change any day and that will take all the diner cruise buses off beach road and relieve traffic in the evenings.
Christmas in Pattaya was great, if you participated. The stores and shops are all decorated with Christmas decorations and you hear Christmas songs being played over the speakers in the stores. I even saw some Christmas carolers singing in front of the laundry shop house. The carolers where from a Christian mission from down the street on Soi Rungland. It was Christmas Eve and the snow was gently coming down on the hats and overcoats of the 19 or 20 carolers as they stood in front of the laundry shop and sang “Silent Night” to the two ladies working late that evening in the laundry. Well, maybe it wasn’t snowing and they didn’t have overcoats but it was very nice.
The New Years Eve celebrations are starting already or is it that this is just the normal celebrations in Pattaya. The Deputy Minister of Interior Pracha Maleenont announced that the authorities have given the green light for entertainment venues to stay open until 6a.m. on New Year’s Eve. The restaurants are going all out to provide for the New Year celebrations for the people.
New Years Day, January 1st, will be the day of recovery from the celebrations and a great time to view the sports action from around the world. Maybe the new casino that is coming to Pattaya will have a “sports book” room in the hotel. The rumor is that the casino will be in Jomtien at the Ambassador Hotel, which is located off Sukumvit road. It seems the Governor and the Mayor and the people all want a casino. The big motivation is to keep the Thai Baht from leaving the country at all the casinos at the boarder with the surrounding countries. It seems that billions of Baht are being spent at the casinos just across the boarder with Thailand. Also, a new Horse Racing track will be built on land being donated by Khun Kamnan Po along Highway No.331 near Pattaya.
